 Learn How to Make Time for Yourself

It’s natural to feel overwhelmed once in a while: between juggling work, family, and other commitments, it’s easy to become too stressed out and busy. But you need to set time aside to unwind or your mental and physical health can suffer. 

Here are some of my favourite tips on how to reduce stress in your daily life.

1. Take some time off each week to do no work-related activities- lovely!

Give your mind and body time to rest and recover from all the rushing around you find yourself doing each day.

 Leave your desk, walk outside for a few minutes and then just stand still and breathe; slow and soothing. This will enable your buzzing mind to  relax, release some of its tension and get a clearer view of what you really do need to do with your time.

Use these few minutes to reflect on what you’ve been doing: have you been making the best use of your time? Are there any small changes that you could make to ensure that you are getting the most out of the hours you’re using working? 

 Just a short time in reflection can really make you become more productive. 

2. Take it slow- don’t try to do as many activities a day as you can as you will have  less time to focus on each thing, and are therefore more likely to leave several tasks only half-done and end your day feeling exhausted, unfocussed and dissatisfied with yourself.

3. It’s only human to want to speed up the pace and achieve everything more quickly than is actually realistic. Then when tasks aren’t achieved within that tight timeframe it’s also only human to  feel guilty; as if you have been slacking.

 If you can’t do it in one day, then don’t try to- instead, give yourself a few days- a week, if necessary. The crucial thing is to be satisfied with what you have made, not to have created something which only half reflects your talents and leaves you feeling that you could and should have done better.

4. When you feel good, keep on going, because you will feel so rewarded for achieving the best outcome in return for your time and energy.  Your mind will clear and you will see things more clearly and work better. Your health will improve and so will your results.

These four tips will help you get more done at less cost to your health, mind, and spirit. You wont feel guilty for sleeping or eating or getting a quick rest. Your health and the quality of your results will justify what you spend.
