All The Time And Money In The World Won’t Build Your Dream Business

feeling overwhelmed

Endless amounts of time and/ or money don’t mean that you don’t have to answer the niggling question: ‘What next?’

You may work for hours every day but in reality achieve nothing.

You may have only a short time to work on your business each day and actually achieve so much more.

The key is strategy: using the time that you do have at your disposal by doing the activities which genuinely are going to move your business forward, and that means recognising which activities simply are not.

Establishing an online business can feel very complicating and very overwhelming:

Now if you’re a driven person- which you must be if you’re thinking about setting up your own business- you are not afraid of hard work. That’s not where the overwhelm lies.

The overwhelm is actually to be found in the type of work involved in setting up your own business, because so many of the tasks are in completely new areas from where you’ve traditionally been operating:

  • Web design
  • Article writing
  • Copywriting
  • Marketing
  • Social media marketing
  • Search engine optimization
  • Advertising- both paid and organic.
  • Project management
  • Financial management

There are probably words in the list above that meant very little to you before you started constructing your business. Therefore, each one of those areas can induce an amount of overwhelm, and when faced with the whole bunch of them at once………

TERROR can set in- of the paralysing kind!.

However, there are ways to beat back the dreaded overwhelm, and  I’m going to help you to develop some strategies to knock overwhelm on the head and make the progress you need to get your business launched and progressing.

The strategy I am going to suggest today is a winning one: OUTSOURCING

You know nothing about web design?

In the scheme of things, as far as the development of your business is concerned, how much does that matter?

In other words: does the future of your business hang on whether or not you can create a snazzy website?

Are you selling your web design skills? Is that what your business is going to be all about?

In those circumstances then, yes, you need to master web design and be really good at it. Otherwise- no.

How will the growth of your business prosper while you spend hours/ weeks mastering web design skills? It won’t!

At best, it will stagnate while you wrestle with website templates and slump deeper and deeper into despond as you know that you’re actually getting NOWHERE in terms of reaching your dreams.

So- the answer is this:

You need a website? Get someone whose business is creating websites to make one! Same with the other areas that are doing your head in to such an extent that you are burning up your precious hours and creative energy actually creating nothing but a greater feeling of exhaustion and overwhelm.

The most important thing of all is your energy, your power, your motivation.

Burn that up on something that won’t actually build your business for you is a terrible waste and likely to lead to Despairville, the derelict city where all lost ideas reside.

Want to stop walking those gloomy streets and drinking in all those dingy bars of the city of the hopeless?

It’s too expensive- I’m starting this business on a shoestring, because that’s all I’ve got!!

No, look at it this way: there’s nothing more expensive than lost time-  the time that you may well have spent today working on changing fonts and resizing images on the first page of a website that no one knows exists.

I’m not saying to outsource your whole business, because that is going to cost some serious money, but just the part that you are wrestling with the most : beat back that particular monster and you’re going to have more energy to face the others.

It doesn’t need to be expensive. Personally, I go here: Fiverr.

Here you will find a dazzling array of skilled people who are not in the least bit terrified of building websites and suchlike and will cheerfully take on your project for an extremely reasonable price.

Type in what you want and look for the top sellers in the suggested results. Then read their reviews- see how many they’ve got and read through. Then contact your favourite three or four, explain what you need and let them get back to you with their proposals.

Next, choose who you would like to do the work for you and give them as much detail as you possibly can about your project.

An important tip is to make sure that you communicate really clearly and frequently with your freelancer both before they start the job and while they are working on your project- that way, you’re far more likely to end up with the results you wanted.

You’ll agree payment at the beginning of the work, but the freelancer won’t get paid until they’ve completed the work and you’ve reviewed it to say whether it’s satisfactory or not.

Remember that the people working on Fiverr are extremely dependent on getting good reviews from the buyers, so don’t be afraid to ask for reasonable revisions of the finished job if you’re not happy with it.

When the project is completed and you are pleased with the standard of the work you can accept the job and make payment. It’s important to give a really good review if you’re happy too.

There- job done!

In the meantime, you can work on your other tasks…..but which tasks should you choose if you’re feeling totally OVERWHELMED?

Look out for my next posts for further tips to help!

In the meantime, if you’d like a clarity call to help you to deal with the overwhlm quickly and map out a way forward for your business, then just complete the contact form and let’s talk!

(disclosure….if you do employ a freelancer from Fiverr by clicking the link above, I may get a small commission)
